What I Read On My Summer Vacation

Summer is drawing to an end.  {sigh}

It's been lovely.  Do not let this sentiment lead you to believe that weather-wise the summer is coming to an end or that that in itself has been lovely, because it isn't and hasn't been.  That's summer in Arizona.  But I digress.

Summer vacation is ending and while I'm excited to get started with our next year, I'm sad to see this time pass.  It's been lovely.  Oh, wait.  I already said that.

We've lounged.  {sigh}  No, seriously.  We've lounged and have loved every minute of it.  Okay, okay, I will also proudly admit to getting all of the laundry and ironing caught up, a new chore system set up and lots of freezing of in-season of fruits, but mostly we've been lounging.

We've soaked up the Olympics, watched movies, played and Mama got to read.  For fun.  Many, many books.

Are you shocked?

Reading really is my favorite past time.  I do love my blogging, of course, and crafting, but reading will always be #1 1/2.  Hubby and kids are #1.  Most of the time.

So what have I been reading?

So nice of you to ask.

Let me tell you:

Bodie and Brock Thoene's AD Chronicles.

Oh my gosh, oh my gosh, oh my gosh.  They are my favorite authors hands down.  They have several series (and I seriously love all of them), but this one really speaks to my heart.  I always feel like I just got to spend time with my Jesus when I've finished each one of them.  There are twelve of them and I've finished ten.  I think I can squeeze those last two in before school starts next Monday.

Next up is:

I have no idea how I managed to get through high school (or even into my very, very, very, early thirties) without reading this.  It's definitely a classic to be added to our family library.

Then I read:

I will admit to watching the movie first (which was terribly amazing, by the way) so my interest was piqued to  check this book out.  It does have quite a bit of golf in it (blah, blah, blah says the author who happens to be married to a golfer), but the whole thing was outstanding.  Just to get you interested... "What lies have you been believing?"  Hmmmmmmm.

Ready for a laugh?

Heavens to Betsy, but I love this book!  Tongue-in-cheek humor making fun of just about everyone and everything?  Yes, please!

And last but not least:

We read this aloud as a family and then went to Krispy Kreme on the Fourth of July to watch the doughnuts being made.  Suddenly, I was the coolest mama ever.  Who knew?

So there you have it.  We've done nothing but read all summer long.  Oh, with some laundry, ironing, chores, etc thrown in for good measure.  Oh! And the Olympics!  But that's another post.

What have you been doing with your summer?
