We Can Do Hard Things

Let me start this off by saying, "I'm not a runner."

I have never in my life ran more than one mile at a time, never by choice and always for a grade. I do not possess the lean, long legs of a runner like my brother and sister. (Geez, I hate them sometimes.)  So, why oh why, would I be blogging about running?

Because running is hard.

And God tells me that I can do hard things.

Motivational Fitness Quotes

A couple of weeks ago, perusing the newspaper (how did I find time to peruse the newspaper?!), I saw that our town is hosting it's kajillion-ith annual 5k in November.  All well and good for those poor suckers who actually think running is fun and a great way to spend their afternoon, but not for this chica.  Oh, no.

Oh, yes.

Remember the post about my word for the year being adventure?  Never, ever did I think running in a 5k was a suitable adventure.  But God has a funny way of changing minds, hearts, situations, you name it, He can change it.

So, I've downloaded the Couch-to-5k app on my phone and three mornings a week, the alarm goes off at 5 am.

And I love it.

Okay, not the 5 am part so much or the fact that Hubby was shoving me out of bed this morning just so the alarm would stop.  But I love the fact that my body is being pushed and challenged and going farther each week.

That's why I'm doing this. I want to show my kids that it's a good thing to push yourself in something new and foreign.  I want to be adventurous.  Wherever God leads me, I want to go.

Because He says I can do hard things.  And I believe Him.
